Grade Level:  6-8

Subject(s):  Health, Reading/Language Arts, Science, Technology

Learner Outcomes:
Students will locate 5 or more  bicycle and skateboard safety tips on the Internet.
Students will use a search engine to locate safety information.
Students will create a PowerPoint presentation on bicycle and skateboard safety.

Duration of Lesson:  2 Lessons (45 minutes each)

Materials:  Paper, Pencil

Technology:  Computer for each student, Internet Access, Projection Device,
Microsoft PowerPoint, printer, computer disk for each student

Teacher Notes:
Students and Teacher must have prior knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint (Version 97 or higher) before teaching the lesson. 
Copy PowerPoint Presentation Information Sheet for each student.

Procedures:

Day 1
1.  Introduce unit on safety.
2.  Hand-out PowerPoint Presentation Information Sheet and review orally with students.
3.  Students will use the search engine in Yahooligans and enter the words: bicycle and skateboard safety.
4.  Students will choose a site(s) and locate bicycle and skateboard safety tips.
5.  Students will take handwritten notes or print information from those sights for PowerPoint Presentation.
6.  Class discussion on bicycle and skateboard safety information located.
7.  Students will begin to make a PowerPoint Presentation on Bicycle and Skateboard Safety.
8.  Save student data to teacher designated site before the end of class.

Day 2
1.  Students will complete PowerPoint Presentation and save to disk. 

Modifications:
Examine student's IEP/504 Plans for required modification.
May want to team low functioning students with a peer tutor.

Enrichment Activities:
Students may present PowerPoint Presentation to the class.
Students may show PowerPoint Presentation to other classes.
Students may send PowerPoint Presentation to an Elementary School to share with younger students.
