Learner Outcomes:
Students will demonstrate knowledge about tooth growth and development.
Students will identify the types of teeth:  incisors, molars, and canines.  Students will identify the parts of a tooth:  the crown and the root.
Students will use a computer website.

Duration of Lesson:  40 minutes/5 days

Materials
teeth and gums worksheet (one per child)
drawing paper
crayons
pencils

Technology Tools/Courseware
Internet accessible computer lab

Teacher Notes:
Make sure each student has an Acceptable Use Policy on file
Secure access to computer lab
Contact dental guest speaker in advance

Procedures:

  1. The students will go to Healthy Teeth.  Under Teeth and Gums click on Tooth Growth and Development.  Read orally and discuss all information with students.  Give opportunity for students to ask questions.  The students will use the site to answer the questions on the teeth and gums worksheet.
  2. Invite a guest speaker from a dental office to give a presentation on how to care for teeth.  Give the class the opportunity to ask the speaker questions.
  3. At the completion of the lesson the students will draw a picture of something they learned from the guest speaker and write a thank you note.  The teacher will get these notes to the speaker.
