Learner Outcomes:
Students will be able to describe the proper procedures for cleaning a wound.
Students will be able to identify and demonstrate the proper procedures for stopping blood flow from a wound.
Students will be able to identify and demonstrate the proper procedures for bandaging a wound on the arm, leg, or head.
Duration of Lesson: 
Two thirty minute periods will be required to complete this lesson.  The first period will be used to complete procedures 1 - 11.  The second period will used to complete 12 - 17.
Materials:
One clean 4 inch by 4 inch gauze pad for each student
One clean 4 inch by 3 yards strip of clean cotton cloth or comparable material (Ace bandage)

Teacher Notes:
Students need a school/county Acceptable Use Policy on file.
Students should have prior knowledge of basic computer skills.
The teacher should secure the use of the computer room. 

Procedures:
1.  The teacher will ask the students to volunteer to describe a wound that required a bandage.  The teacher will lead students to describe the procedure used in cleaning and bandaging the wound.
2.  Students will visit web site Caring for Minor Wounds to view and read the medical techniques presented at that site.
3.  The teacher and students will discuss the steps presented at this web site visited in step 2.
4.  The teacher will discuss the proper procedures for cleaning a wound.
5.  The teacher will demonstrate for the class the proper procedures for stopping blood flow and bandaging a wound found on an arm, leg, and head by using a student volunteer to model as a wounded individual. 
6.  The teacher will assign students to groups of two.
7.  The students will discuss the proper procedures for cleaning a wound with each other.
8.  The students will take turns practicing on their partner the proper procedures for stopping blood flow and bandaging a wound found on an arm, leg, and head.
9.  The students will describe for the teacher the proper procedures for cleaning a wound.
10.  The students will demonstrate on their partner the proper procedures for stopping blood flow and bandaging a wound found on an arm, leg, and head for the teacher.
11.  The teacher will use the First Aid Rubric to evaluate each student as they describe the proper procedures for cleaning a wound and demonstrating the proper procedures for stopping blood flow and bandaging a wound found on an arm, leg, and head. 
12.  The teacher will review for the class the proper procedures for cleaning a wound and demonstrate the proper procedures for  stopping blood flow, and bandaging a wound found on an arm, leg, and head by using a student volunteer to model as a wounded individual. 
13.  The teacher will assign students in groups of two for the purpose of viewing and discussing It's A Wrap worksheet.
14.  The students will use the computers to view and discuss It's A Wrap worksheet. 
15.  The students will use the computers to complete Proper First Aid for Wounds worksheet. 
16.  The students will print and give to the teacher the completed Proper First Aid for Wounds  worksheet from procedure 15.
17.  The teacher will check and grade finished Proper First Aid for Wounds  worksheet from procedure 15.
Modifications:
The teacher will check all special needs students' IEPs or 504 Plans to make appropriate modifications. 
Enrichment Activities:
The students will visit Nosebleed web site to read and discuss proper procedures for stopping nose bleeds.
The students will visit Bleeding site to read and discuss proper procedures for stopping blood flow of a severe wound.
