Lima beans (6 for each group)

Popsicle sticks (56 for each group)

Small straight sticks gathered from outside (4 for
each group)

A small crooked stick gathered from outside (1 for
each group)

Small bowl (1 for each group)

and Dice” game on-line to make sure of the directions
Procedures:

Visit Native
American Technology and Arts to read about various Native American
games.

games section, to read about the variety of games played.

Make a list of the various Native American games on
the appropriate side of the Venn

Brainstorm and list as a class, games that are popular
today on the appropriate side of the Venn

Explore and note the characteristics of each and what
they have in common on the Venn
Diagram

Divide into groups (size determined by teacher) and
make a “Bowl and Dice”
game.
-
Paint one side of each of 6 lima beans one color (ex.:
yellow).
-
On the other side of each bean, use different colors
to paint a simple pattern (ex.: red and orange stripe).
-
Gather 4 small straight sticks and 1 small crooked
stick from outside for each group.
-
Count out 56 popsicle sticks for each group.
-
Review the directions for playing “Bowl
and Dice” and begin playing the game.
Modifications:
-
Allow students with reading and writing difficulties
to partner with a friend throughout the project.

Complete the project whole group.
