"Construction Paper Spider"
Materials: Each Child needs:
1 - 9" construction paper circle
scissors
1 - 6" construction paper circle
glue
8 - one inch strips of construction paper
yarn or fishing line
2 - 10 mm wiggle eyes
Directions: Prior to this lesson, copy the large and small
circle patterns on a variety of colored construction paper. Cut eight one
inch strips of construction paper for each child. Make a spider as an example.
If spider art is to be suspended from ceiling, cut choice of yarn or line.
If bulletin board display is preferred, make a large web on bulletin board.
Tell the children that they are going to make a spider
and show them the example. Have the children choose a color. Then have
them cut out the circles and glue the small circle to the large circle
to look like a spider. Teach the children to accordion fold the paper strips
and glue them to the back of the large circle body. Have children write
their name on the back. Glue wiggle eyes to front of small circle. Attach
fishing line or yarn with tape and suspend from ceiling or place spiders
on bulletin board web.
