Learner Outcomes

The student will:

  • identify the four types of teeth
  • identify the function of each type of tooth
Duration of Lesson:  40 minutes

Materials:

Technology Tools/Courseware: LCD projection device or computers for small groups, partners, or individual use and Internet access

Teacher notes:

  • Get out the teeth molds.
  • Make copies of worksheet.
  • Set up projection device.
  • Preview brainpop site.
  • Obtain mirrors.
  • Obtain Acceptable Use Policy for each student to use Internet.
Procedures:
  1. View the video on teeth on the brainpop site.
  2. Pass out the teeth models in groups.  Have students practice identifying the teeth on the models.
  3. Use mirrors to identify the four types of teeth in their own mouth.
  4. Pass out the worksheet for students to read in groups. 
  5. Take quiz on  brainpop site.
  6. Make flashcards with names and functions of four types of teeth.
  7. Complete  Teeth wordsearch.
  8. Color the types of teeth on worksheet.
Modifications: 
  • View the show again. 
  • Regroup students or partner them. 
  • Use dictionary to look up tooth types causing problems.
  • Modify as indicated on IEP or 504 plans.
Enrichment Activities: 
  • Extra activities on the brainpop site. 
  • Draw and label teeth and their function in Microsoft Windows Paint.
Evaluation/Assessment: Oral identification of own teeth and their specific function.
