Lesson 5
Title:  Book vs. Video

Grade level:  3-5

Subjects: Language Arts

Learner Outcomes:
    1.  The learner will view the video, Charlotte's Web.
    2.  The learner will compare and contrast the video and the book using a Venn diagram.
    3.  The learner will make a diorama that tells something about the book.
    4.  The learner will take a test on the book on-line.

Duration of lesson:   2 to 3 - 50 minute classes

Materials: the video,  Charlotte's Web,

Technology Tools/Courseware:  multimedia computer, VCR, TV

Teacher Notes: The teacher will need to get a copy of the video, Charlotte's Web to be viewed.  Register all the children in the class on BookAdventure.

Procedures:
    1.  View the video, Charlotte's Web, tell the children before the viewing begins to think about how the video compares with the book that they have just finished reading.
    2.  Make a Venn diagram showing the similarities and differences between the video and the book.
    3.  Assign a diorama to be made at home to illustrate a scene from Charlotte's Web.  Tell about the scene that the diorama depicts when it is returned to school.
    4.  Take a test and print out the results.

Modifications: The story may need to be read to children with a lower reading level.

Evaluation/Assessment:  comprehension test on-line, completion of the Venn diagram, participation in class discussion
