Title: Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Learner Outcomes:
· Students will understand the concept of supply and demand
in American economy.
· Students will prepare and present a “financial
plan.”
Duration of Lesson: up to two 60 minute sessions
Materials: copy of The Toothpaste Millionaire; large sheets of tagboard/posterboard, pencils, markers
Technology Tools/Courseware: multimedia computer with Internet connection and projection device; Power Point software (if students choose to do presentation on computer)
Teacher Notes:
· Have examples (clippings, newspaper articles, etc.) of people
who started a successful business at a young age available for discussion.
· Have copy of The Toothpaste Millionaire.
· Teacher may allow students to do their financial plan project
on the computer
or on tagboard/posterboard.
Procedures:
· Read aloud The Toothpaste Millionaire.
· Discuss the concept of supply and demand.
· Have students brainstorm a list of jobs that can be performed
by young people( ex: raking leaves, washing cars, etc.).
· Share with students ( and encourage them to share) examples
of young entrepreneurs who started successful businesses.
· Have students visit kidsmoney
to complete a survey on making money.
· Have students visit youngbiz
to read true examples of young entrepreneurs.
· Have students prepare and present a financial project following
the Project Guideline Sheet.
Modifications:
· Students with special learning needs (such as learning disabled
and mentally impaired students) should be paired with a peer tutor.
Enrichment Activities:
· Students can visit escapefromknab
to play a game using math skills.
· Students can visit tax
for ideas on starting their own business.
Evaluation/Assessment: Completion and presentation of the financial plan.
