Activity 3: Volume of a Whale
Each group will refer to
their previous scale model of a whale and grid that picture in either one
inch or one centimeter squares depending on which is more appropriate for
that drawing. Using the gridded squares and your knowledge of finding
volume, the group will calculate an estimated volume of the whale as it
is scaled and as it would be life-sized. Be sure to show formulas,
gridded drawing, and all procedures. This should be accompanied by
individual summaries by each team member to explain their procedures used
to determine the volumes.
