After completing your pre-interview research, you must set up interviews with candidates who are relevant to the story. Familiarize yourself with the information so that you will be capable of asking additional topic-relevant questions mid-interview. Make sure that the interviewee is aware that the meeting is for a story-related interview.TIPS:
- Organize questions in a logical progression.
- Avoid yes or no questions.
- Plan, plan, plan.
- Pay close attention for leads into additional questions during the interview.
- ALWAYS ask HOW and WHY.
- Make sure to take thorough notes or utilize a tape recorder for additional accuracy.
- It is better to ask someone to repeat themselves than to get it all wrong!
- Double-check the spelling of all names, including first and last.
- Don't forget the THANK YOU!
- Draft the story as soon as possible...
