HIV - Human Immunodeficiency Virus

Immune refers to the system of the body that protects us from
different types of
germs.
Deficiency refers to lack of.
Syndrome refers a group of symptoms.
Like the Pledge of Allegiance, a lot of students can tell you what HIV
and AIDS
stand for but they
don't have the realization of the full meaning.
HIV is the virus that causes the disease known as AIDS.
People (of all ages) infected with HIV, at some point develop symptoms
that can
cause them to
be mildly or seriously ill. They finally reach the point that these
same
symptoms become life
threatening.
In a nut shell, HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
