Assignment Biography

Description:
Choose a mathematician or scientist who was alive during the time of the American Civil War.  Examples include:
European American
Karl Weierstrass Benjamin Pierce
George Boole George William Hill
Augusta Ada Lovelace John Howard Van Amringe
Joseph Liouville Joseph William Gibbs
Arthur Cayley Robert Simpson Woodward

Directions:

  1. Research and write a brief biography.  Include relevant facts such as birthday, birth place, family, education, etc.
  2. Create a birth certificate
  3. Create the front page of his/her hometown's newpaper complete with news articles.
  4. Create one week's worth of diary entries, discussing family, job, news, etc.
  5. Create a letter to a relative.
  6. Create a resume.
  7. Create an obituary.
  8. Create an epitaph.
  9. Include a title page and bibliography.
You will use a word processor (Word or WordPerfect, for example), Print Artist or similar graphic software, the internet, and library research materials.

You will present your biography to the class at the end of the assignment.  You may do this via traditional means, i.e., written reports, or via Microsoft PowerPoint.

Be original!!  Be imaginative!!  BUT, be factual!!
