Lesson Five: Creating the Connection

Grade Level(s): 8-12

Learner Outcomes:

The student will use research information to create a career related project in which a variety of technological skills may be utilized.
 

Time Frame:

3 class periods with 2 weeks to complete projects
 

Materials:

Computer with Internet access, word processor, desktop publishing software.
 
Technology Tools/Courseware:

Internet, Powerpoint, digital camera, scanner, video camera, VCR, 
and closed circuit TV system, such as Channel One.

Teacher Notes:

Procedures:

The student will create a project relating to a selected career of personal interest. Following the general guidelines provided by the teacher, the student will research, develop, and create a final product.

Projects are to include one of the following:
 

Portfolio depicting a notable person (www.wvaworldschool.org) "Biographies of Famous Scientists" is a good guide)
 

Electronic scrapbook produced through a word processor/software
 
 


Video written and produced by the student
 
 

Powerpoint presentation written and produced by the student
 

Modifications:

Appropriate for all students in all subject areas.
 

Enrichment activities:

Participation in work related experiences such as job shadowing, field trips, mentor opportunities, and volunteerism.  Students will organize and present a panel discussion on careers over closed circuit TV.
 

Evaluation/Assessment:

Proficient use of the Internet, satisfactory completion of all assignments and projects
