All Around Plants 

Grade Level: 1

Subjects: Science, Math, Language Arts

Description: The students will be introduced to the parts of a plant and their functions. They will explore the importance of plants to their environment and to us.

Learners Outcome:
The students will  label the stem, leaf, roots, and flower of a plant.
The students will explain the purpose of each part of a plant.
The students will understand the importance of plants to the environment and to us.
The students will name 3 plants we eat and 3 items made from plants.
The students will recognize that a plant grows from a seed.

Duration of Lesson: 6 days, 30 minutes per day

Language Arts: 1.3,  1.14, 1.15, 1.21, 1.108
Math: 1.3, 1.19, 1.23, 1.25, 1.35, 1.43

Science:
1). Understands the structure and function of cells and organisms.
2). Understands the relationships among organisms and their physical environment.

Language Arts:
1). Uses reading skills and strategies to understand and interpret a variety of informational texts.
2). Uses viewing skills and strategies to understand and interpret visual media.

Math:
1). Understands and applies basic and advanced properties of the concepts of measurement.

Comments: Children need to be cautioned that some plants are poisonous.
