Showing the progression of direct sunlight
from the Tropic of Capricorn, to the Equator, to the Tropic of Cancer.

You will need: (per group)

1 globe
1 flashlight
1 ring stand with ring large enough to balance the flashlight you will use.
1 meter stick
Some tape to mark the spot for the placement of the ring stand (sun) and the globe.
Lots of room

Directions:
Place the flashlight on the ring of the stand and adjust the height of the ring so that the direct light falls on the Tropic of Capricorn when the globe is tilted away from the light.
Turn the ring stand with light 90° , and move the globe. Be sure that the globe stand is not turned. It should continue to point in the same direction. (Of course, this would be toward the North Star.) This should cause the direct light to fall on the Equator.
Turn the ring stand with light 90° , and move the globe. This should cause the direct light to fall on the Tropic of Cancer. The globe should be tilting toward the flashlight by this time.
Turn the ring stand with light 90° , and move the globe. This should cause the direct light to fall on the Tropic of Cancer.
