You will need:

1 small plastic bottle

1 cork to fit snuggly into the bottle top

1 straw

1 straight pin

Small piece of cardboard

Tape

Scissors

Pebbles

Directions:

Weight the bottle with several inches of gravel placed inside.

Fit the cork snuggly into the bottle top.

Cut a fin shape for the tail of the weather vane.

Notch the end of the straw.

Fasten the tail into the notched end of the straw.

  Secure it with tape.

Fasten the straw to the cork with a straight pin.

You are ready to check wind direction.

Something to think about:

Record the wind direction. Does the wind always come from the same direction?

How often does the wind come from a particular direction? Express that as a percentage.
