Lesson Five
 
Title:  Powwow

Grade Level:  4th-6th grades.
 

Subject:  Reading, Social Studies, Language, Technology, Art, & Music.
Learner Outcomes:
  1. Students will share their own original legends from a tribe studied.
  2. Students will compare traditional American food with Native American food.
  3. Students will dramatize a Native American Legend.
  4. Students will assemble Indian tribe art works.
  5. Students will demonstrate Indian chants and/or songs.
Duration: Two days.
 
Materials: Completed projects from individual Indian Tribe studies.
Technology Tools/Courseware: Software to make printed invitations to guests, Print Master Gold or Publisher 98.

Procedures:
Session One:
    1. View Power Point presentation on "What is a Powwow?"
    2. Students will select the tribe they will represent in the powwow.
    3. If desired, students will prepare invitations or signs to announce the upcoming powwow.
    4. Students will  work in their small groups to finalize their portion of the powwow.
Session Two:
    1. Students will share their completed Native American projects.
