Powwow
Grade Level: 4th-6th grades.
Subject: Reading,
Social Studies, Language, Technology, Art, & Music.
Learner Outcomes:

Students will share their own original legends from a tribe
studied.

Students will compare traditional American food with Native
American food.

Students will dramatize a Native American Legend.
-
Students will assemble Indian tribe art works.
-
Students will demonstrate Indian chants and/or songs.
Duration:
Two days.
Materials: Completed projects from individual
Indian Tribe studies.
Technology Tools/Courseware:
Software to make printed invitations to guests, Print Master Gold or
Publisher 98.
Teacher Notes:
-
Students should be encouraged to select from enrichment activities
from previous days to make the powwow more interesting.

Students may need to do work outside the classroom on some
of the enrichment projects.

The teacher will need to prepare the order of student presenters
for the powwwow.

The powwow may be organized as centers that parents and students
visit or as a one time.
Procedures:

View Power Point presentation on
"What is a Powwow?"

Students will select the tribe they will represent in the
powwow.

If desired, students will prepare invitations or signs to
announce the upcoming powwow.

Students will work in their small groups to finalize
their portion of the powwow.

Students will share their completed Native American projects.
