Learner Outcomes:
The students will be able to identify body characteristics of spiders (8 legs, fangs, different number of eyes, etc.)
The students will count to eight.
The students will use fine motor skills, folding, cutting, and gluing - to make a spider headband.
The students will memorize lyrics to "The Spider Spins A Web".
The students will use the internet to view “How a Wheel Web is Constructed”


Duration of Lesson:  60 minutes
 

Materials Needed:

Book Spider's Lunch
Skein of yarn
Paper Strips appropriate width and length for headband
Glue
Scissors
Stapler and staples
Eight construction paper strips for each child
1-3 1/2 inch circle per child
2 Large pom poms per child

Tech. Tools / Courseware:

Computer
Internet
 
Procedure:
Find a house or garden spider to observe.
Read Spiders Lunch
Make "Spider-rific" headbands
Students will view how a wheel web is constructed.
Play and sing "A Spider Spins A Web" (Mailbox Oct/Nov 1992)
 
Modifications:
Teacher assisted scissors in cutting skills.
If the student is not able to pass the skein of yarn to make a spider web or hold on to the skein, then another student may help them or the teacher may help.
 
Enrichment:
Read other information books: Spiders Zoo Book, Amazing World of Spiders, Mighty Spiders and Amazing Spiders.
Make a Spider booklet
Song "Spider Spider" (Mailbox pg. 28)
