Never play with fire or materials such as matches, lighters or fireworks.
Make sure materials such as listed above are out of reach of younger siblings
or friends. If they are not, let an adult know. Find a safe
place for them to be stored.
If helping cook around a stove or open flame, do not wear loose clothing.
Clothing, like this, can easily catch fire if one accidentally brushes
close to a flame.
As a family, sit down and discuss your fire escape plan from your home.
You should make sure you have different ways to evacuate the house, in
case your first plan of escape is blocked by fire or a fallen object.
A good way to do this is to actually make a map of your house with
arrows showing the way you would leave the home. At school you have
fire drills, so why not do this in your home
as well. Maybe you could
time your family and see how long it takes all of you to get out of the
home safely. Practices, such as this, will help you in the case of
a real danger of fire in your house.
Practice the Stop, Drop and Roll technique with your family and friends.
