Learner Outcomes:

• Student will develop a greater awareness for fire safety.

• One 45 minute class period.

Materials:

• Fire Safety Facts Sheet
• Fire Prevention Word Search
• Lesson Quiz
• Mats for enrichment activity

• Computer
• Internet

Teacher Notes:

• Students must have parent consent form on file for Internet User Policy.

Procedures:

• Students will receive sheet with Fire Safety Facts.
• Teacher will discuss sheet with students.
• Students will visit and view "10 Tips for Fire Extinguisher Use".
• Students will complete Word Search and use twenty of the twenty - five words to create their own "Fire Story".

• Story could be completed by using a story starter provided by the teacher, or students could work in cooperative groups to create a group designed story.

Enrichment Activities :

• Students will practice the STOP, DROP and ROLL  technique, in the gymnasium, on mats, by playing "Fire Tag".
• Students will design a home fire escape route to share with their classmates.

Evaluation/Assessment :

• Students will identify basic fire safety rules by completing Lesson Quiz based upon Fire Safety Facts Sheet.
