Title:  Typing a Business Letter

Grade Level:  7

Subject:  Vocational/Technical, Language Arts, Physical Education

Learner Outcomes:  The student will be able to format a block style business letter using correct spelling, punctuation, and formatting.

Duration of Lesson:  2 days

Materials:  Mini lecture, Computer, Microsoft Word

Technology Tools/courseware:  Microsoft Word, Internet, Computer, and LCD Panel

Teacher Notes:

 Procedure:

1.  Explain the basic parts of a block style letter.
2. Review the formatting guidelines for a block style letter.
3. Show students a completed block style letter using the LCD panel.
4.  Ask students to get in small groups to brainstorm for the letter writing campaign.
5.  Ask each group to pick 5 businesses or individuals to write letters to asking for                their participation in our community health fair.
6.  Instruct students to find addresses for the businesses students wish to contact.
7.  Students should compose their block style business letters. Useful Phrases
8.  Proofread for grammar, formatting, and spelling errors.
9.  Sign letter in blue or black pen.
10. Submit letter to the teacher for final approval.
