The student will rotate and participate
through a school wide health fair

in a minimum of 10 sessions/stations

The student will complete a scavenger
hunt , obtaining information from the various stations/sessions

The student will calculate the
distance walked throughout the day by using a digi walker to calculate
steps taken.
Duration of Lesson:
3 hours - beginning after lunch and continuing until school is
out

Each booth participating in the health fair will have information available
for
students to take with them

Teacher Notes: Assign
one student in each group a digi walker.
The scavenger hunt will be created from information obtained from
each booth.

Several area health care providers
were contacted and invited to participate in the health/wellness fair
-
After finalizing presenters, the
afternoon was organized into a health/wellness fair consisting of the following
stations: physical fitness testing, positive parent involvement,
nutrition, dental care, public health, spinal care, bike safety, cancer
care and awareness, sports injury care, cardiac care, magnetics,
massage therapy, music therapy, respiratory therapy, stress management,
hand washing, hunting safety, lung capacity, poison prevention, madd,
sadd, cosmetology, fire/home safety, home health center, hearing, vision,
blood pressure, domestic violence and family safety, parent child communication,
healthy eating, diabetes, eating disorders, alcohol and drug awareness,
family fitness, atv safety, healthy snacks, grip testing, and student prepared
power point presentations

Students will rotate through stations
at will, allowing freedom to investigate those stations that are of special
interest

Students will be divided into
groups prior to the event

Health/wellness Fair is open to
parents and the community
-
Scavenger hunt worksheet will
be passed out to each group
-
Digi Walkers will be passed out
to one member of each group
Modifications:
Depending
on disability and IEP, adjusted groups and peer tutoring will be used to
complete the assignment
Enrichment Activities: Have
students research the required level of education to work in
one of the fields represented in the health/wellness fair.
