Title: Peasant Life in the Middle Ages Grade Levels:  Nine through Twelve Subjects: English/Language Arts, Social Studies

• Research the lives of peasant farmers during the Middle Ages
• Write diary entries to demonstrate the knowledge of a farmer’s life

Materials:  Computer Lab Paper and Writing Utensil
Technology Tools/Course Work: Computer Lab  Internet Sites Medieval Life Middle Ages Health

Teacher notes:

• The teacher should gather the above needed materials ahead of time and prepare
• The teacher needs to explore the Internet sites before beginning the lesson in order to help the students use the sites appropriately

• The teacher will direct students to the Internet sites: Medieval Life & Middle Ages Health
• The teacher will lead a discussion on the life of a peasant farmer
• The students will view the diary site
• The teacher will direct students to write five diary entries about the life of a farmer

• Special needs students will write two entries
• Special needs students may be paired with a peer tutor

• Use the Internet to find examples of diaries from this time period

• Evaluation will be based on effort and completion of the diary entries

• Demonstrates competence in the general skills and strategies of the writing process
• Demonstrates competence in the general skills and strategies of the reading process

• Understands the redefinition of European society and culture from 1000 to 1300 CE
