History of Money

Learner Outcomes:
    The student will review the timeline on the history of money online.
    The student will answer questions corresponding to the timeline on the history of money.
    The student will read about the history of money online.
    The student will review common terms/facts about money in different formats (i.e., concentration, flashcards, wordsearch).
    The student will play bingo with the terms (drill and practice).

Duration:
    This lesson will require 90 minutes.

Materials:
    timeline (site)
    questions on the timeline
    quia activities (flashcards, concentration, wordsearch) online
    computers with Internet access
    bingo board
    bingo list - history of money - facts

Technology Tools:
    Computers with Internet access

Teacher Notes:
    The teacher may want to print out the questions that correspond to the interactive timeline prior to the students getting on the computer.
    A list from the Quia site can be printed out for the bingo cards, or the teacher could make bingo cards using the bingo list.
    Math humor. Openers for lesson.

Procedures:
    Using the Internet, visit the Nova site on the history of money, and click on the interactive timeline.
    Answer timeline questions.
    Read about the history of money online at the Nova site.
    Review facts associated with money in different formats (i.e., concentration, flashcards, wordsearch).
    Play bingo with the history of money facts.

Modifications:
    Add pictures to bingo cards to appeal to a visual style of learning.
    Pair students, so that one student can read the bingo cards, appealing to the auditory learners.
    Recreate the timeline on posterboard, appealing to tactile learners.
    Make any other modifications, according to the IEP.

Enrichment activity:
    Make timeline templates.  Have relay races to see who can be the fastest team to correctly arrange all the monetary events in chronological order.
    Download Euro coins, Euro notes, German coins, German notes, Italian coins, and Italian notes.
    Download Winzip to extract the packed money files.
    Download a picture viewer to view and project coins and notes to class with LCD projector.
    This foreign currency projection enrichment activity can be used with all five lessons.

Evaluation/Assessment:
