Learner Outcomes:
The
students will be able to convert monetary values from one currency to another.
The
students will understand the changing relationships of currencies and the
factors that affect the relationship
Duration:
This
lesson will require 45 minutes
Materials:
PowerPoint
Presentation on currency conversion
Computers
with internet access.
(Foreign
Language) Students go to local banks to obtain currency exchange rates

Teacher Notes:
Be
sure to preview the web site so that you may help the students to navigate
it.
Procedures:
The
teacher will show the PowerPoint presentation, then give the students several
practice problems (20 min).
The
teacher will put students in pairs to access currency conversion websites
(25 min). The websites under References (below) offer currency conversion
programs. Have the students try 5 - 10 different conversions (i.e.
20 British pounds to ____ US dollars). Have the students try each
conversion on several sites to see if they get the same answer.
Discuss
answers and how quickly the markets change.

Enrichment Activities:
Foreign
language students will track daily/weekly the currency of the country they
are studying
Make
a chart or graph to be updated daily/weekly
Foreign
Exchange students convert and estimante amount of money of general items
to purchase here in the US in compraison to Europe in both the local currency
and Euro. While on site, students will collect price informations for general
items in the country or countries they are visiting, convert these prices
back to US$ for a compare and contrast study. In addition, students will
collect data of annual income of people to determine standard of living
and living cost.
