Description This is a thematic unit created to allow kindergarten
students the opportunity to explore and learn about
apples. The goal of this unit is to give students the
opportunity to explore apples, a familiar fruit, with
various hands-on activities. Through these activities,
students will be introduced to skills they need for
learning about their world and classifying information
through the use of predictions, conducting experiments and
drawing conclusions about data collected. Apples will be
used in student created artwork and parts of the apples
will be used to introduce the concept of whole and half.
Through literature the students will meet a historic
figure, Johnny Appleseed. While the focus of this unit is
based in science and math, the use of printed text,
fiction and non-fiction books, poems and songs throughout
the day will also play an important role in this
literature-rich "apple" environment.
