Description This unit provides students an overview of the abilities to become cognizant of each cluster to share information with peers and teachers through Power Point presentations and group projects. Students will explore career and
post-secondary opportunities using the Educational and Career Opportunity System (ECOS) website.This unit will take approximately 2-3 weeks.
The 21st Century Tools Technological tools required for this unit: Computers with Internet access, Microsoft Office, Data Projectors and /or scan converters to use with laptop or PC, TV/VCR's, and optional digital camera.

National Standards American School Counselor Association's National Standards
help school systems identity what students will know and
be able to do as a result of participating in a school
counseling program; establish similar goals, expectations,
support systems and exp eriences for all students; service
as an organizational tool to identify and prioritize the
elements of an effective school counseling program; and
provide an opportunity to discuss the role of counseling
programs in school to enhance student learning.

Standard A

Language Arts National Standards Grade 6-8:

Plays a variety of roles in group discussions (e.g., active listener, discussion leader, facilitator).
Uses new information to adjust and extend personal knowledge base.

Technology National Standards:

Knows the common features and uses of desktop publishing software (e.g., documents are created, designed, and formatted for publication; data, graphics, and scanned images can be imported into a document using desktop software).
Uses advanced features and utilities of word processors (e.g., uses clip art, a spell-checker, grammar checker, thesaurus, outliner).

Life Work Standards:

Determines key contacts within a prospective employer's organization.
Determines specific procedures for applying for a specific job.
Identifies and engages in necessary steps to prepare for a job interview.
Identifies important benefits and procedures of prospective employers (salary, deductions, vacation).
Identifies a prospective employer's products and services.
Identifies the procedures involved in applying for a job at a company's personnel office.
Fills out a job application.
Prepares letters of inquiry or application.
Identifies and engages in necessary steps to prepare for a job interview.
